Tropical Storm Dalila Prompts Coastal Warnings in Guerrero and Jalisco, MExico

Heavy rain, flooding, and dangerous surf expected despite storm staying offshore.

Tropical Storm Dalila formed on June 13, 2025, off the southwestern coast of Mexico, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2025 Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season.

Despite its movement away from land, the storm has prompted Tropical Storm Warnings for areas stretching from Tecpan De Galeana to Cabo Corrientes, including parts of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco.

Dalila’s Current Status

As of 09:00 UTC on June 14, Dalila’s center was located about 315 km (195 miles) southwest of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. The system is packing maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h (50 mph) and moving northwest at 19 km/h (12 mph), with a central pressure of 1,000 hPa. The storm is notably large, with tropical-storm-force winds extending up to 500 km (310 miles) from the center.

Rainfall and Flooding Risks

Dalila is expected to bring significant rainfall to the coastal regions of Guerrero, Michoacán, and Colima through the morning of June 15. Forecast totals range from 75 to 150 mm (3 to 6 inches), with localized amounts up to 230 mm (9 inches) possible—particularly in mountainous areas. This heavy rain raises the risk of flash flooding and mudslides, especially on steep terrain near the coast.

Surf and Swell Hazards

Dangerous swells generated by Dalila will impact the southwestern Mexican coastline over the next few days. These swells are likely to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents, posing a serious risk to swimmers, surfers, and boaters.

Forecast Track

Dalila is expected to continue moving northwestward through June 14, then gradually turn westward from the night of June 14 into June 15. If current model guidance holds, the storm will remain offshore and is forecast to dissipate by June 17 as it moves over cooler waters and encounters dry air.

Preparedness and Monitoring

Authorities urge residents in the warning areas to remain alert for local advisories and to take precautions against flooding, mudslides, and hazardous surf. Even without a direct landfall, Dalila’s broad wind and rain field can impact coastal communities.
