Middle Tennessee is in for an unsettled stretch of weather through the weekend, with scattered showers and thunderstorms tracking across the area on Saturday and into Sunday. A Code Red alert for heavy rain and storms has been issued, the entire viewing area was placed under a Level 1 out of 5 risk for strong to severe storms.

The primary concern today is flooding. A Flood Watch is in effect through 7 AM Sunday for all areas along and north of Interstate 40, where repeated rounds of heavy rain could trigger localized flash flooding. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches (51 to 76 mm) are expected across those areas, with some locations potentially receiving even more. The heaviest rain is forecast to fall north of I-40, where the flood risk is highest
Beyond flooding, damaging wind gusts are the leading severe weather threat across Middle Tennessee on Saturday. An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out, though the overall tornado probability remains low. The storms are expected to clear out by Saturday evening.
Once the storm system clears, attention turns to a significant heat wave building across the region. Temperatures in Nashville are expected to reach 87°F (31°C) on Saturday and climb to around 92°F (33°C) on Sunday, with highs approaching triple digits early next week. Feels-like temperatures will exceed 100°F (38°C) due to high dewpoints and elevated humidity. Anyone spending time outdoors should drink plenty of water, take regular breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and take all necessary heat precautions.
